No More SNZB-02LD Cable Mess: A Wrap-Around Stand in Action

The SONOFF SNZB-02LD Zigbee smart thermometer is a rather unique temperature sensor. Unlike most standard indoor temperature and humidity meters, it comes with an extended cable and a metal-shelled DS18B20 temperature probe. This design allows it to reach into spaces that ordinary sensors can’t—such as sealed containers, tight enclosures, or areas with high humidity or mild corrosion.

It supports a wide temperature detection range from -40°C to 115°C, making it suitable for a variety of specialized applications in both DIY and industrial scenarios. I’ve recently been using this sensor to monitor my filament dry box prototype.

That said, the extended cable on this device is quite long—about 1.5 meters. In most scenarios, such a length is unnecessary. Instead, it ends up becoming a source of clutter, making the SNZB-02LD difficult to use and store neatly.

To address this, I designed a custom stand that allows the SNZB-02LD unit to be mounted securely on a surface—whether on a workbench or the outer shell of my dry box. More importantly, the stand includes a built-in channel to wrap and organize the excess probe cable, preventing tangling or dangling across other components.

Once the SNZB-02LD is inserted into the stand, the excess cable can be conveniently wrapped around the outer edge of the structure. The process is straightforward and doesn’t require any additional clips or cable ties. The back of the stand has been carefully designed to accommodate the original magnetic base of the SNZB-02LD. This means you can still attach it to a refrigerator door, a metal cabinet, or any other magnetic surface—retaining its flexibility in placement.

On the front frame of the stand, there are four small notches that help secure the probe cable in place. These slots allow you to guide the wire in the direction you prefer, which is especially useful when installing the unit in corners or along the edge of a container—keeping everything neat and organized.

After using it for a while, I’m pretty satisfied with the results. At the very least, storing the SNZB-02LD now looks much cleaner—no more messy, dangling probe wires getting in the way. I’ve uploaded the model to MakerWorld(Wrap-Around Stand for SONOFF SNZB-02LD thermometer), in case it can help others who—like me—can’t stand visual clutter and love tidy solutions.

To make this model easier to print, I split the structure into two separate parts. This way, you can print each piece flat on the bed without needing any support structures, which saves filament and increases the chance of a successful print. Once printed, the two pieces can be snapped together via the built-in alignment holes. No glue or extra fasteners are needed. It’s a straightforward process and also makes the design easier to disassemble or modify later.
